Allergens

We are very aware of the importance of allergen control in our factory.
Six of the key allergens are not ever present in our processing room. These are:

  • Crustaceans
  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Lupin or products thereof
  • Milk or milk derivatives
  • Molluscs and products thereof

There are several other known common allergens that we do process. These are:

  • Celery
  • Cereal containing gluten
  • Mustard
  • Nuts / Nut Oil or Nut Derivatives
  • Peanuts
  • Sesame Seeds
  • Soy beans

Of course everyone will be aware that, for example our, Almond Butter contains nuts! Even so, all of our products are marked to show what allergens they contain. Not everyone will know that there is sesame in hummus for example.
We declare on our labels that our products are made in a factory that processes the seven key allergens shown above.

  • The celery comes from the Marigold bouillon powder that we use in some soups and curries.
  • The soya beans come from the Tamari soy sauce we use in various products.
  • The only wheat or gluten we process is in our breakfast cereals. This is not packed using our main weighing and filling equipment, which minimises any risk of cross contamination.
  • We only use peanuts in our peanut butter.
  • We do not store allergenic ingredients in the processing room.

Other non-FSA allergens: Tomatoes, Mushrooms.
Of course we use mushrooms in our organic mushroom soup. Mushrooms are not a listed allergen under current FSA regulation. Nonetheless we show the information on our allergen information sheet, as we know several people do react to mushrooms.

We use tomatoes in our organic tomato soup and several other products. We show the information on our allergen information sheet, as we know several people do try to avoid eating tomatoes.

We use organic wine vinegars in several products. This is made in France from organic wine, and organic wine can contain a small amount of sulphur dioxide, though at a very low level compared to non-organic wine. We use organic vinegar in small amounts in cooked products, and are quite confident that the SO2 / sulphite level is well below 0.001% by weight, (10mg / Kg)

All of our processing and filling equipment is fully dismantled after each production run, and cleaned very thoroughly.
